Student, Faculty & Staff Email

Belmont University provides all student, adjunct, and faculty/staff with Microsoft Office 365 accounts.

Undergraduate and graduate student email accounts are created at the time incoming students create their myBelmont account using the First Time User link on my.belmont.edu. Individuals are notified during the admissions process when to set up their myBelmont account. Student accounts are set-up using the following format: firstname.lastname@bruins.belmont.edu.

Students will be notified about their email creation and will be provided with a temporary credential and setup link for first time access. The link will have them register a new password and enroll in multi-factor authentication. Students can additionally access their email in myBelmont via the launchpad Outlook link or at outlook.belmont.edu.

Faculty and staff email accounts are set up during the last phases of the employment process. New hires are provided their Belmont email address and a temporary password. This allows them to login to http://outlook.belmont.edu, change their password, and create a profile in Microsoft Outlook.

Faculty and staff may change their password at any time by logging into myBelmont following the completion of the First Time User prompts. In the upper right-hand corner of their myBelmont landing page, click Control Panel. Under My Account are two links: Change EMAIL Password and Change Password. Click Change EMAIL Password and enter the new password in both places. Complete the process by clicking the Change Password button.

Email Policy and Deletion

If you are an upcoming graduate this term or have already graduated, please review these key points in the university student email policy:

Upon graduation, alumni will have access to their email and O365 products (most importantly OneDrive) for approximately 6 months from their graduation date. Students can review the university email policy for their respective cut-off date. In preparation, graduates should migrate their email and cloud data off their student email account and associated O365 apps to their personal, professional emails.

Additionally, graduates should be encouraged to set up an alumni account and forwarding address through the Belmont Alumni website here. For any general Alumni questions, they can be referred to the Alumni FAQ resource page here.

Hosting Email in Microsoft 365 Presents Many Benefits

Belmont University is constantly working to improve the technology systems and experiences for Students, Faculty and Staff. An integral step to making a more consistent experience for Student and Faculty interaction is moving student users from the Google Suite to Microsoft Office 365 platform. This change introduces many benefits to the university.

Hosting mail in the Microsoft environment provides opportunities for enhanced cybersecurity measures where multi-factor authentication is included for all Belmont 365 email accounts. Students and adjuncts will have the option to choose text, phone call or verification through the Microsoft Authenticator App during profile sign-in. Additionally, advanced security features include Safelink review, attachment scans, and email encryption.

Hosting student, faculty and staff email in the Microsoft cloud increases functionality with other Microsoft 365 tools including Office Apps and OneDrive file sharing. Hosting mail alongside these collaboration tools provides the opportunity for seamless integration and an enhanced user experience.

95% of Fortune 500 companies use the Microsoft Cloud environment. Graduates are faced with learning Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and other Microsoft tools when starting their careers. Introducing Belmont students to the Microsoft environment during their higher education experience will better equip students to be workforce ready.
