Deepen your understanding of the music business and learn to navigate this industry from active professionals

There is no better place to pursue a career as a professional songwriter. Students come from across the U.S. and several foreign countries to study commercial songwriting in the heart of Music City. As a Songwriting (SNG) major, you’ll study with faculty have won every major industry award from Grammys to CMA, ACM, Dove, Emmys and more. The Songwriting Department is housed on Music Row at 34 Music Square East, the historic home of the Quonset Hut and Columbia Studio A Recording studios where iconic artists such as  Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Patsy Cline, Leonard Cohen and Simon and Garfunkel have recorded.

Our location in the heart of Music City provide unmatched opportunities for industry engagement. Students in upper level classes have written songs for Sony Records Nashville, Universal Music Publishing, Big Machine Records, Warner Chappell Music, TV show “Nashville,” Curb Publishing, Warner Brothers Records Los Angeles and other companies.

Students have accepted more than 25 publishing and record deals

Studying songwriting at Belmont’s Curb College offers an incredible collaboration between Songwriting, Audio Engineering and Motion Pictures majors for the production of music videos. Your studies are enhanced by classes in commercial songwriting, students study audio engineering, music business and have a choice of dozens of minors. Study Abroad opportunities are plentiful with songwriting courses taught in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Africa.

Our focus is on elevating your unique creative talents to the level that your music can interface with the many sectors of the entertainment industry, regardless of musical genre. Our songwriters are taught to seek the opportunities that arise in a changing but expanding business. We have developed a program that emphasizes the higher purpose behind a life in songwriting that not only serves our industry, but also the world and the public. Our graduates are a testament that belief, and proof that the future of music is in great hands.
