Your first step is knowing what your study abroad program will cost. Every program is unique, and costs can vary depending on location, duration and type. We’ve made it easy to estimate your expenses:
- Cost Estimator for Semester/Year Study Abroad Programs
- Cost Estimator for Short-Term Study Abroad Programs
For short-term, faculty-led programs (Maymester, Summer Short-Term Programs and Spring Break) , fees are outlined in each program's e-brochure. Find your program brochure here.
We understand that plans can change. If you decide not to participate in your program after committing, it's important to know what financial responsibilities remain. Belmont begins making arrangements on your behalf as soon as you commit — including bookings, deposits and other expenses — which means certain costs may be non-refundable.
Here’s how withdrawals are handled:
By committing to participating in a study abroad program, you recognize that upon the receipt of your committed application Belmont has in good faith begun to make program arrangements and incurred expenses on your behalf. Consequently, you authorize the Office of Study Abroad to charge your student account for the balance of the total program fee (after the deposit has been applied) and the tuition fee.
All program fees, student fees and tuition will be billed through the Belmont billing portal and will be due before the start of the program. Students who withdraw from a program after committing to participate will owe the following withdrawal fees, depending on the withdrawal date:
Spring Break Programs:
- Withdrawal before December 15, 2025: $500 non-refundable deposit and non-recoverable costs
- Withdrawal on or after December 15, 2025: $500 program deposit and 25% of the program fee
- Withdrawal on or after January 15, 2026: $500 program deposit and 100% of the program fee
Maymester/Summer Programs:
- Withdrawal before March 1, 2026: $500 non-refundable deposit and all non-recoverable costs
- Withdrawal on March 1 through March 6, 2026: $500 program deposit and 10% of the total program fee
- Withdrawal on March 7 through March 13, 2026: $500 program deposit and 25% of the total program fee
- Withdrawal on March 14 through March 20, 2026: $500 program deposit and 50% of the total program fee
- Withdrawal on March 21 through March 27, 2026: $500 deposit and 75% of the total program fee
- Withdrawal on or after March 28, 2026: $500 deposit and 100% of the total program fee
Please note:
If after the commitment deadlines have passed, you are unable to participate in the study abroad program for any reason - including involuntary termination from participation due to failure on your part to remain eligible to participate - you recognize that you will be responsible for the charges listed above.
In the case of a serious emergency or illness, Belmont will make every effort to recover program expenses as fully as possible. Nevertheless, at least some of the program costs may be non-recoverable, and these will remain charged to your Belmont account.
The Office of Study Abroad recommends that students consider purchasing trip cancellation/travel insurance. Travel insurance is effective in the case of a sudden illness or injury that necessitates canceling or interrupting a trip. Most policies also provide coverage due to a wide variety of unforeseen events. Trip cancellation/travel insurance is available through most travel agencies or by doing a web search for trip cancellation insurance. A few suggestions are AAA, Access America, Allianz, and Travel Guard Insurance (Belmont does not endorse one specific agency).
Yes — you can use your financial aid for study abroad! Many students apply their federal aid and Belmont institutional aid toward the cost of their programs.
