How would you describe your Belmont University experience?
I loved my time at Belmont and wish it had not ended so soon. My professors, especially in the College of Education, were amazing and always made sure that I had what I needed both academically and outside of the classroom. They cared about me as a whole student and imparted that same wisdom to share with my students as a teacher, I also loved that. They were so many student-centered activities, and that faculty and staff cared not only about students growing their minds but also it’s just having fun.
How did Belmont University help you grow and develop your network?
Belmont gave me many opportunities to network during federal work-study and throughout my time in the College of Education. I made so many connections through practicum student teaching and tutoring, which helped me secure my first job coming out of college before I even graduated.
What support did you receive from Belmont in achieving your career goals?
I had a lot of support from the faculty and staff in the College of Education. I spent a lot of time talking with our associate dean and weighing my options for next steps after I graduated. I also received a lot of support just in the way of my professors, keeping me encouraged and helping me to know how capable I am of doing great things.
Could you share an internship experience during your time at Belmont?
During the last semester of my senior year at Belmont, I student-taught at Waverly-Belmont. I made so many connections with the teachers and staff at the school using the knowledge and training that I received at Belmont that by February of that year, I had already accepted a job at the school. This is now the school I am teaching at and I absolutely love it, and it has made the transition into adulthood so much easier knowing that I already had a support system that I had built up during student teaching.
What advice would you give to prospective or new students at Belmont University, especially regarding finding internships and securing full-time positions?
Don’t be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone and really get to know people. Take note of the little things. People will notice that you are attentive to details and that you are just a caring person when you remember the little things. Also, don’t be afraid of the unknowing because when you let yourself be OK with not knowing what’s next, you may find the greatest opportunity waiting for you.
