Teaching Philosophy

Medical Education

Cultivating a collaborative spirit driven by faith, intellect, humility, curiosity and calling.

The Frist College of Medicine’s educational philosophy is to cultivate a collaborative spirit driven by faith, intellect, humility, curiosity and calling. With teams of experienced scientists and clinicians working together, our faculty strive to create a student-focused environment that models and promotes lifelong development and improvement.

We embody this philosophy by joining with students in diverse, team-oriented instructional methods and placing the learner into the space where science and clinical skills converge in our “Head and Heart” curriculum. We aspire to promote student learning that is self-directed, peer-supported, and steeped in the practice of problem-solving, with the goal of developing mindful, compassionate and confident physicians who strive for excellence in patient care.

The Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine at Belmont University is committed to educating future clinicians whose knowledge and clinical decision-making are firmly grounded in foundational sciences. These physicians will consider the whole patient with a deep and nuanced understanding of one’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and the socioeconomic and systems factors that affect health care.
