Who are Clinical Faculty?
Clinical Faculty members are critical to the mission and vision of the FCoM. Clinical Faculty teach, support, nurture, and provide important feedback to students to ensure progress in their clinical practice and medical education. Clinical faculty develop professional relationships with learners and enhance medical practice opportunities for their learners.
Clinical Faculty Opportunities
Clinical Faculty needs for the medical education program include:
- Clinical Experiences in the Foundation Phase (Years 1 and 2)
- Physicians are needed in every specialty for community precepting. Students will rotate at a clinical site one half-day per week starting in the first year.
- Clerkships
- Physicians are needed in every specialty for clerkship precepting.
Becoming a Clinical Faculty Member
Clinical Faculty share their knowledge, skills, and abilities with learners in a wide variety of formats to provide a comprehensive clinical and didactic learning experience. Appointment process
Clinical Faculty are appointed by the Dean after the recommendation of the Department Chair, the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs, and the Appointment and Promotions Committee. Depending on the applicant's qualifications, employment, and responsibilities, a Clinical Faculty member would be appointed to one categories:
- Non-Core, Part Time Clinical Faculty – a part time faculty member employed by a clinical site not affiliated with FCoM or employed by a clinical affiliate.
If you want to become a clinical faculty member, the process will start with completing an application. Other documents you will need to complete your application include:
- Updated Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of active board certification, or if not board certified, official transcripts of your terminal degree from the degree-granting institution.
Clinical Faculty Privileges
Clinical faculty, depending on their current faculty type, are eligible for annual appointments with the following ranks:
- Clinical Instructor
- Clinical Assistant Professor
- Clinical Associate Professor
- Clinical Professor
Appointed Clinical Faculty receive:
- Recognition of faculty appointment and participation in the medical school.
- Recognition at medical school and community events.
- Permission to include their faculty appointments and rank in their professional and clinical promotional materials.
- Privileges to the medical school library include access to electronic resources.
- A Belmont faculty email address – @belmont.edu.
- Access to continuing medical education (CME) resources for and teaching medical students and board certification renewal.
- Access to facilities and professional development activities, seminars, and workshops.
