How do nations make the transition away from fossil fuels and simultaneously address competing (and often seemingly more urgent) priorities such as poverty, economic development, and human rights? Join Dr. Leah A. Dundon as she discusses these challenges and why there is cause for optimism.
Dr. Dundon is the Director of the Vanderbilt Climate Change Initiative. She is also a practicing environmental attorney with the law firm of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C., and holds a research appointment in environmental engineering at the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering.

Re-Cover, Re-Form is an MFA alumni response to the 2023 Inaugural Tennessee Triennial theme of RE-PAIR selected by Dr. Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons. Each of these artists speak to the function of art for positive change, meaning that art can operate as a critical force in society and ultimately enhance the human experience. A variety of media are explored in this show to connect and engage the viewer in unique ways. From traditional modes of artistic expression like photography and sculpture, to those influenced by advances in digital technologies, this show evokes the vast power of art by celebrating the creative approaches of our alumni.
Exhibiting alumni artists include Chuck Ärlund (’20), Heriberto “Eddie” Palacio III (’20), Lisa Bachman Jones (’21), Maddie Ryan (’21), Danny Broadway (’22), Le Dillingham (’22), Allie Horick (’22), and Jackie Lucas (’22).

Fitting for a homecoming week celebration, this lecture will provide an overview and analysis of sport fandom. The presentation will discuss the impact of sport in the lives of fans and spectators and the importance of sport for society at large. By detailing his own fan journey, Dr. Peetz will explore theories of sport fandom and his research in sport consumption behaviors.
The 2023 Dr. Robert E. Simmons Distinguished Faculty Lectureship recipient is Dr. Ted Peetz, Associate Professor in Sport Administration. The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ Dr. Robert E. Simmons Distinguished Faculty Lecture is named after Dean Robert Simmons who was a visionary academic leader and strong supporter of the liberal arts at Belmont University (then Belmont College).

Come hear Belmont alumna and Associate Professor Christi Williams share about her volunteer work as a registered pet therapy team alongside her Labrador retriever, Layla. Together, they have volunteered in various settings, including pediatric rehabilitation, pediatric oncology, and the neuro ICU.
Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:00, followed by a presentation from 9:00 to 10:00 and a book signing from 10:00 to 10:30.
You will receive one hour of complementary continuing education credit for this event (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work) or Certificate of Completion.
Registration is required, and the first 100 registrants will receive a complementary book from Christi.
