Careers & Outcomes

Few occupations can match the broad range of opportunities that accompany a degree in social work.

Social workers provide support to people in every stage of life – from infancy to older adulthood—and are one of the largest providers of professional mental health services in the United States. Social workers can be found in social service agencies, mental health clinics and substance abuse treatment centers, hospitals, schools, government agencies, private nonprofits and many other settings.

The core mission of the social work profession is to serve people and enhance their well-being. Social work is distinguished from other helping professions by our understanding of people and the problems they are experiencing in the context of their environment. Our profession has a strong commitment to social and economic justice, and a unique focus on supporting the needs of people who are vulnerable and oppressed.
