Masterclasses

College of Music & Performing Arts

At Belmont, masterclasses aren’t one-time events — they’re immersive, hands-on experiences that connect you directly with the artists shaping today's industry.

Through residencies, guest sessions and collaborative performances, you'll receive real-time feedback, refine your craft and gain insight into what it takes to succeed at the highest level. In some cases, you'll even perform alongside the artists themselves.

Recent masterclass series have brought internationally recognized musicians to campus for multi-day residencies, where students rehearse, learn and share the stage — gaining real-world experience that mirrors a professional music career.

From Grammy-winning performers to Broadway stars and touring musicians, Belmont students regularly learn from industry leaders across every discipline.

A Wide Range of Perspectives

Belmont’s masterclasses span disciplines across the performing arts, giving students exposure to a variety of career paths and creative approaches.

Previous masterclass experiences include:

  • Kristin Chenoweth sharing performance insights with musical theatre and theatre students.
  • Chris De'Sean Lee, Belmont musical theatre alumnus, speaking on career development in theatre and television, with insights from "Hamilton", "S.W.A.T" and "Legacies."
  • Vanderbilt Voice Clinic leading sessions on vocal health and injury prevention.
  • Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet hosting a jazz masterclass and live performance for instrumental students.

Additional guests have included Cody Fry, Chris Potter, Norm Lewis, The Opry Band, Joyce Yang and more.

Masterclasses in Action

In many cases, masterclasses extend beyond observation. Students prepare material in advance, participate in small-group instruction and, at times, perform alongside visiting artists.

These experiences reflect Belmont’s commitment to hands-on learning — giving students the opportunity to engage, collaborate and grow in real-world contexts.
