Getting Started

Most private lessons do not require an audition. Some advanced instructors and ensemble programs may require one. These will be noted in their program descriptions.

• If Belmont University is closed, in-person lessons are canceled and will be moved online or made up later.
 • If Belmont is open but travel is unsafe, you and your instructor may choose to meet online or schedule a make-up.
 • If you’ve already used both make-ups, additional make-ups are at instructor discretion.

We offer lessons for:
  • Young Musicians: Ages 3–12
  • Pre-College Students: Ages 13–18
  • Adult Learners: College-age and up

All lessons take place on Belmont University’s campus in Nashville. Directions and parking details are available on our Policies & Parking page.

Scheduling & Attendance

Lessons follow the Belmont Academy academic calendar, with fall, spring and summer sessions. Check the Calendar for current dates.

Private lessons are offered in 30, 45 or 60-minute sessions, depending on age, experience and instructor recommendation.

We understand that conflicts arise. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed but may be offered at the instructor’s discretion if advance notice is provided. Please review the full attendance policy on the Policies page.

Belmont Academy follows the University’s weather closure policy. Updates are posted on belmont.edu and sent via email. Missed lessons due to official closures will be rescheduled when possible.

Tuition & Payment

Tuition varies by instructor and lesson length. Visit the Tuition & Registration
page for current semester rates.

Yes. Campus buildings used by Belmont Academy include accessible entrances, elevators and restrooms. Families needing mobility or sensory accommodations can contact us in advance so we can best support each student’s needs.

For privacy and safety, photography and recording are not permitted during lessons unless pre-approved by the instructor. Families may record during designated recital times only.

Programs & Instructors

We currently offer instruction in piano, strings, guitar and voice. Other emphasis areas may be available on request. Suzuki programs including group classes are also available.

Our faculty includes Belmont University professors, professional performers and Nashville-based studio musicians. Meet them on our Instructors page.

We pair each student with an instructor based on age, experience, goals and availability. Our team personally reviews each inquiry to ensure the right fit.

Recitals & Performances

Recitals are strongly encouraged but not required. Performing helps build confidence and provides valuable experience in a professional setting.

Each semester includes at least one formal recital opportunity, typically held in Harton Recital Hall in the Massey Performing Arts Center.

Students should dress neatly and modestly to reflect the professional environment of the performance hall.
