Fall 2026 semester classes begin as Belmont reaches a new enrollment milestone

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 19, 2026) — Total enrollment reached 9026 students as fall 2026 classes began, the largest first-day enrollment in the University's history. Belmont's incoming new student class represents 1827 students this fall, arriving from 50 states and 17 countries. 46% of new students are from Tennessee.

Belmont University students welcome new arrivals with "Welcome to Belmont" signs during campus orientation."This year, more students are calling Belmont home than ever before. We're deeply grateful for families who trust us to walk alongside their students as they grow into leaders of character. We look forward to helping each one discover their calling," said University President Dr. Greg Jones.

The milestone comes during a season of major investment on campus.

This spring, Belmont broke ground on a new Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business facility on Music Row, made possible by a $58 million lead gift from Mike and Linda Curb, the largest gift in University history. The building will house audio engineering labs, a content capture and podcast production studio, a multi-function ballroom, band practice space and the Center for Mental Health in Entertainment, supported by the Country Music Association. The facility will also serve as the future home of the Johnny Cash Learning Center, anchored by a collection of Johnny Cash's personal archives acquired by the University this summer through a partnership with the Cash family.

The University also recently broke ground on The CORD at the Historic Powerhouse, a 17,000-square-foot renovation and addition made possible by a $10 million lead gift from Belmont Trustee Cordia Harrington. Slated for completion in 2027, The CORD will house a 150-seat student performance venue, a digital media lab for animation and collaborative space bridging the arts and music. It will also serve as the future home of Belmont's new Animation & Media Arts B.F.A., a joint program between the Watkins College of Art and the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business that launched this fall.

Both projects are part of Hope Transforms, Belmont's $700 million campaign investing in the scholarships, faculty and spaces that shape a student's experience at Belmont. The campaign has now raised $350 million, more than halfway toward its goal.

Dr. Chris Gage, Belmont’s vice president for enrollment services, said, “Our enrollment team spends months getting to know these students before they ever arrive. A Belmont education starts with hospitality, long before the first day of class, and that hospitality is something every member of our campus community helps bring to life. Our record-breaking enrollment is the result of an enterprise-wide commitment to welcoming students, supporting their journey and creating an experience that begins long before they step onto campus. We are grateful to everyone across Belmont who plays a part in making that experience possible.”

Final enrollment numbers will be available in mid-September following the University's official census. First-day figures represent the largest enrollment Belmont has recorded to date.
