The Challenge

As a Navy ROTC student transferring into a nursing program, Faison faced the complex challenge of balancing rigorous military requirements with the demanding curriculum of nursing school. She needed a program that could accommodate her unique situation while providing strong academic support.

The Solution

Faison found the College of Nursing offered three key elements crucial to her success:

1. Streamlined Admissions Process

"Belmont’s College of Nursing is unique from other schools because you can apply for direct entrance versus having to submit two applications," Faison explains. This streamlined process eliminated unnecessary barriers for her as a transfer student with specific program requirements.

2. Responsive Support System

"I received an immense amount of support from the staff and faculty during my application and degree planning process,” said Faison. “They were so responsive and able to accommodate the requirements that the Navy set forth for my program."

3. Comprehensive Academic Resources

"The Student Success Center has been so impactful for me this semester. I have used the peer tutor resource, the medication math practice sessions and open lab sessions," Faison shares, highlighting the practical tools that have supported her academic journey.

The Results

Faison's experience at Belmont has fostered personal and professional growth in the following ways:

  • Enhanced resilience and self-compassion
  • Comfort with seeking assistance when needed
  • A deepened passion for holistic patient care
  • Confidence in clinical abilities

Key Takeaway

"Looking back on when I first started at Belmont to the person and student I am now, I have grown personally in my ability to give myself grace, be resilient and ask for help,” said Faison. “Professionally, my passion for providing quality and holistic patient-centered care has grown throughout my clinical experience and my confidence in my ability to provide that care.”

Her journey demonstrates how Belmont's nursing program can be successfully integrated with military service commitments while fostering both personal and professional development.
