Belmont Welcomes Largest-Ever Cohort of International Students

August 27, 2025 | by Lisa Donahoo

Belmont University celebrated a historic milestone this fall, welcoming the largest incoming class of international students in the University history. A total of 101 students from 56 countries joined the Belmont community for the 2025-26 academic year, bringing an unprecedented level of global insights to campus.

This record-breaking cohort represents a wide geographic spread, with students arriving from across six continents. Their presence signifies a pivotal moment in Belmont’s commitment to championing global communities and its growing reputation as a destination for students from around the world. The rich perspectives, cultural backgrounds and unique experiences of these students are poised to profoundly enrich Belmont's classrooms, residence halls and social life.

"The arrival of our largest-ever international student body is a powerful affirmation of our mission," said Dr. Lori Baker, executive vice president of Global Strategy and Programs. “This is more than just a number for our records; it is an incredible gift of talent, perspective and culture to our community. The positive impact of these students will extend far beyond their individual success. Their presence is a catalyst for the very transformation we seek to inspire."

To ensure a smooth and positive transition, the students participated in a specialized International Student Welcome Week. The week was packed with cultural competency activities, designed to help them acclimate to campus and community life. Through a series of lectures, along with engaging, gamified team building and learning events, students gained essential knowledge about Belmont's resources, U.S. culture and the vibrant Nashville community. These activities provided a unique opportunity for students to learn from each other's diverse backgrounds, forging early connections and friendships that will form the foundation of a globally aware campus community.

This record-breaking class is noted by the Office of Global Strategy and Programs as the vanguard of a new era, positioning Belmont as a true global hub for education, collaboration and cultural exchange.
