May 2023 graduates of Belmont University’s Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing have earned a 98.5% first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), based on a second quarter report from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). This class is Belmont’s largest group of graduating nursing students.

Beginning in fall 2022, the college hired a Coordinator of Pre-licensure Preparation to assist with exam preparation and review. In addition, Belmont has made progressive efforts to provide individualized attention and service to students, supporting their efforts to pass the NCLEX and succeed in their work to become trained nurses.

"Our NCLEX scores are a testament to the tremendous commitment of our students, faculty and staff in ensuring that Belmont nurses are well-prepared to address the needs of a complex and changing health care system while also providing exceptional, compassionate care to patients, families and communities," said Dr. Julie Honey, interim dean of the Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing.

Entry into the practice of nursing in the United States is regulated by various licensing authorities. To ensure public protection, all RN candidates nationwide are required to pass the NCLEX-RN examination which measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse. The exam is developed each year by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
