Biography
Dr. Will Best is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Belmont University in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science. He teaches courses in statistics and data science and has developed coursework in biostatistics and sports analytics that emphasizes real-world applications and computational methods in R.
Dr. Best's research interests include statistical modeling, sports analytics, and interdisciplinary applications of data science. His work focuses on statistical consulting and collaborative research across the biomedical sciences, where he partners with researchers and clinicians in disciplines such as physical and occupational therapy, nursing, radiation oncology, and physician assistant studies to design studies, conduct analyses, and interpret findings. Beyond his scholarly work, he collaborates with community and industry partners on projects spanning athletics, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Best earned his Ph.D. in Statistical Sciences from Baylor University in 2022 and is passionate about helping students develop statistical thinking and practical analytical skills. Outside of his academic work, he is an avid runner and endurance athlete who has completed multiple marathons, including the Boston Marathon, as well as a half Ironman triathlon.
