Biography

Sean Martin is a Director, Actor and Educator, with over a decade of professional experience. His career thus far has taken him throughout all of North America as well as Europe. Sean attended the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and holds Graduate degrees in both Classical Acting and Directing. He also has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Abilene Christian University in Texas.

As an educator, Sean was selected as the 2014 Fred Coe Artist-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University, providing him with the opportunity to direct for both the main stage and studio as well as teach a variety of classes. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Belmont, Lipscomb and Trevecca Nazarene Universities. Prior to working in Nashville, Sean served as a guest lecturer both at his alma mater LAMDA, and The Poor School in London. He is a certified Stage Combatant with an Advanced Level Three Certification from the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.

During his career, Sean founded and continues to be involved with two highly successful companies. FreeTrade Productions is a multimedia production company involved in Theatre and Film and produces work all over the world from its home base in London. Their first production was the world premiere of Keepsake by Gregory Beam at London’s renowned Old Red Lion Theatre. His other venture, Penfold Theatre Company, is a multiple award-winning company in Austin, TX. It produces a full season of plays each year, as well as serving its community through educational outreach and workshops.

Directing Credits include: Richard II by William Shakespeare (Nashville Shakespeare Festival); Top Girls by Caryl Churchill and After the End by Dennis Kelly (Vanderbilt University); The world premiere of Keepsake by Gregory Beam (Old Red Lion Theatre, London); The new writing festival Write/Cycle (Drayton Arms, London); A Midsummer Nights Dream by Shakespeare (LAMDA, London); Two Rooms by Lee Blessing (Linbury Studio Theatre, London); A new devised play Verloren Herinneringen (De Acteers Studio, Den Hague); Samuel Beckett Your Ride is Here by J. Michael Straczynski (Linbury Studio Theatre, London); The LAMDA tour of Touched by Stephen Lowe (Ludlow Assembly Rooms, Yorkshire); The Man of Mode by Sir George Etheridge (LAMDA, London).   *He also had the exciting opportunity to direct several scenes and assist award-winning director Lyndsey Turner with the 2011 Royal Court Gala in London's Shoreditch Town Hall with performances by Benedict Cumberbatch, Matthew Macfayden, Toby Jones and Rachel Stirling.
