Sean Martin

Biography

Sean Martin serves as both the SP Program Manager in Belmont University’s Center for Interprofessional Engagement & Simulation and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance. Working at the intersection of healthcare simulation, performance, and education, he brings more than twenty years of experience as a director, actor, educator, and collaborative leader to human-centered learning and artistic practice.

In the Simulated Participant Program, Sean oversees the recruitment, training, and development of simulated participants and collaborates with faculty to create immersive learning experiences. His work applies arts-based pedagogy in performance, storytelling, and communication to healthcare education, with particular focus on psychological safety, and authentic human connection.

Sean joined Belmont’s Department of Theatre & Dance in 2018. His coursework has included acting, directing, audition technique, and text analysis, and he has directed numerous mainstage productions, including The Play That Goes Wrong, A Doll’s House, Godspell, and Yankee Tavern. Outside of Belmont, Sean has taught and directed at Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, Trevecca Nazarene University, The Poor School, and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Sean’s professional career spans theatre, film, and television across the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe. He founded and served as the Associate Artistic Director of Penfold Theatre Company in Austin and later founded and served as Artistic Director of Free Trade Productions in London. His work as an actor and director has received recognition from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Austin Critics Table Awards, B. Iden Payne Awards, and BroadwayWorld.com.

Sean holds an MFA in Classical Acting and an MA in Directing from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and a BFA in Theatre from Abilene Christian University. He is an active member of the Association of SP Educators and serves on its Grants and Research Committee.
