Biography
Originally from Tennessee, I earned my B.S. in Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Moving to Nashville, I completed my Ph.D. in Cell & Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University. While at Vanderbilt, my research focused on signaling pathways that regulate mammalian retina development and regeneration. After Vanderbilt, I joined Belmont as a Lecturer before transitioning to full-time faculty.
I’m excited to continue my research program by mentoring undergraduates on projects that investigate mechanisms driving retina regeneration, with the goal of better understanding how damaged neural tissue can be repaired. In the classroom, my goal is to get students curious about the “how” and “why” of biology, helping them appreciate the field’s depth and complexity.
Outside the classroom and lab, I’m an amateur potter and a lifelong crafter. I also enjoy spending time outdoors and going for a good run to clear my head. On weekends, you'll often find me and my partner catching a movie at the Belcourt or exploring live music.
