Biography

I joined Belmont University in 1999 as the first laboratory manager on campus after completing a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biochemistry from Bradley University and a Master of Science in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University. Over the years, I have been involved in a multitude of operational and administrative activities as the university has grown and as two additional laboratory managers have joined the staff. Currently, I am the Laboratory Manager for the Department of Biology in the College of Sciences & Mathematics (CSM).

I strive to create a safe and appealing laboratory environment to meet the instructional needs of Belmont's faculty and students. Each year, I recruit, train, and supervise student laboratory assistants from diverse backgrounds. These student workers receive practical experience, as well as a chance to develop critical and independent thinking skills. I also strive to address environmental safety and health issues at Belmont. In my position, I serve as the CSM Biological Safety Officer and as a member of the CSM Safety Committee, CSM Laboratory Oversight Committee, Belmont Environmental Management System Team, and Belmont Emergency Resource Team.
