Nino Monea

Professor Nino C. Monea is an Assistant Professor at Belmont University College of Law, teaching Criminal Procedure, Constitutional Law, National Security, and Evidence. His research focuses on structural inequalities in the criminal justice system, the need for democratic legitimacy in judicial institutions, and the role of the military in society. His work has been cited by state, federal, territorial, and military courts, as well as state attorneys general and state legislatures. He previously taught at Stetson Law School and the United States Military Academy (West Point).

Professor Monea graduated from Eastern Michigan University and Harvard Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal on Legislation and Student Body President. After graduation, he clerked for Justice Bridget Mary McCormack on the Michigan Supreme Court and then commissioned in the United States Army, Judge Advocate General Corps. On active-duty, he served as a legal assistance attorney, Special Assistant United States Attorney, and military prosecutor. He also deployed with a Special Operations Command task force, advising on counterterrorism and diplomatic operations throughout the Middle East and Central Asia.

Professor Monea continues to serve in the United States Army Reserve as a Senior Defense Counsel and is a Fellow with the National Institute of Military Justice.
