Biography

As Executive Director of Formation and Leadership Development, Dr. Nathan G. Webb works in the Office of the President and serves as the Catalyst for Pathway 1, Whole Person Formation. In this role, he leads curricular and co-curricular efforts aimed at helping members of the Belmont community further develop their sense of purpose and being. He oversees BELL Core, the Teaching Center, the Office of Service-Learning, Whole-Person Formation initiatives, and Leadership Development efforts at Belmont. Dr. Webb also holds a faculty appointment as a tenured Associate Professor of Communication Studies.

Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Webb served in a number of academic leadership positions at Belmont. He served as Interim Dean of the College of Theology and Christian Ministry, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Department Chair of Communication Studies, and Assistant Director of the Teaching Center. He also served on Belmont’s Faculty Senate.

Throughout his 10+ years as a faculty member, Dr. Webb has primarily taught courses related to corporate communications, intercultural communication, and public speaking. He has also regularly taught in Belmont’s study abroad program and utilized service-learning in his courses. Dr. Webb’s research predominantly focuses on teaching and learning. He has presented his research at regional, national, and international conferences, and he has been published in venues such as Business and Professional Communication QuarterlyTeaching and Learning Inquiry, and the Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. He also serves on the editorial boards of College Teaching and the Journal of Family Communication. Dr. Webb is an active member of the National Communication Association.

In addition to his higher education experience, Dr. Webb worked for five years in the non-profit sector. During that period, he worked for the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, one of the largest United Methodist congregations in the world. He also has three years of experience as a legal research analyst. In this role, he worked with the firm's attorneys to construct legal arguments in suits against proprietary higher education institutions.

In his free time, Dr. Webb spends a lot of time traveling. He has visited all seven continents, 30+ countries, and all 50 states. He is also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoys spending time in the outdoors.
