Biography

Dr. Michael Oliver received his Ph.D. in Biological Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 2018. Upon graduation, he began a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cognitive Neurophysiology at The University of Tennessee Medical Center where he investigated whether the use of the EEG technique of Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) could serve as a functional biomarker for early detection and disease progression in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. After completing his Postdoctoral training, Dr. Oliver joined the faculty at Belmont University in the Fall of 2021. His teaching interests include Cognitive Psychology, Health Psychology, Sensation and Perception, and Introductory Psychology. Dr. Oliver’s research broadly focuses on understanding the effects that differences in neurocognitive function have on behavior and cognitive performance in young, middle-aged, and elderly adults, in addition to individuals with dementia. Using various physiological techniques, he hopes to be able to identify objective indicators of cognitive performance and use them to help differentiate between normal neurocognitive aging and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Outside of the University, Dr. Oliver enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, eating at local food establishments, attending sporting events, and being outdoors.
