Biography

Dr. Laura-Kate Gonyea Huse received her B.A.s in Communication and Theatre from Carson-Newman University. Her M.S. in Media and Communication Studies and Ph.D. in Communication Theory and Research are from Florida State University. She also has professional experience in both the non-profit and government sectors.

Dr. Huse’s research focuses on working with as opposed to for marginalized populations affected by health inequities through participatory paradigms, particularly through community-based participatory research (CBPR). By utilizing health communication, applied communication, and intercultural communication, Dr. Huse prioritizes holistic and culturally relevant interventions for pro-social change. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, has been on national and international research teams, and has published research in Information, Communication, and Society; Communication Studies; Frontiers in Communication; and The Journal of Development Communication. She has also been an active member of the National Communication Association in both the Applied Communication and Health Communication divisions.

In her daily life, Dr. Huse enjoys spending time with her husband Collin and their two dogs Yoda and Luke. She loves eating amazing vegan food, reading, playing TTRPGs, and being outdoors.
