Biography

Dr. La Kiesha D. Armstrong has been an integral member of the Belmont University community for over 20 years and currently serves as Vice Provost for Academic Excellence. In this role, she leads key areas related to academic affairs and engages as a liaison for university-wide initiatives that align with the institution’s mission and values. Dr. Armstrong promotes the work of leaders in Student Success and Flourishing, the Office of the Registrar, and Academic Assessment, fostering an inclusive environment that empowers students to achieve their academic and personal goals through strategic support, collaboration, and innovative programming.

Through collaborative visionary planning, Dr. Armstrong is dedicated to nurturing academic excellence and continuous improvement. Her responsibilities include implementation of institution-wide academic policies and serves as the primary liaison for accreditation matters, including her role as the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison. Additionally, she promotes academic assessment efforts across the university and provides leadership for various academic programs while spearheading other academic priorities.

Dr. Armstrong collaborates closely with college units to advance execution of academic initiatives. On behalf of the Office of the Provost, she leads the Graduate and Undergraduate University Catalog and Curriculum Committees to integrate new academic degree programs and curricular initiatives, as well as cooperative academic and articulation agreements. Her experience equips her to amplify strategic operational plans that support substantial student growth while mobilizing high-quality services for students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Armstrong holds a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama, along with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. She actively contributes to the broader educational community as a board member for the Tennessee Higher Education Initiative and as a former board member for Women in Higher Education in Tennessee.
