Kristi Oshiro

Biography

Dr. Kristi F. Oshiro, joined the Department of Sport Administration as an Assistant Professor of Sport Administration in the Fall of 2020. She earned a Ph.D. in Kinesiology (Sport Management) from Texas A&M University (TAMU), a M.S. in Kinesiology (Sport Management) and a B.S. in Sport Studies with a minor in psychology from East Carolina University (ECU) where she was a student-athlete.

Prior to joining the faculty at Belmont University, Dr. Oshiro served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at TAMU where she taught a variety of courses including Diversity in Sport Organizations, International Sport Business, Sport Governance, and Sport Marketing. In addition, she has sport industry experience working in media relations at ECU and serving as a high school softball coach.

Dr. Oshiro’s research interests include two primary and interrelated areas of inquiry: 1) Diversity, inclusion, and social justice in sport with a focus on the intersection of race and gender. And, 2) Sport marketing, the utility of new media studies, and the implications this creates in and through sporting spaces. She has presented at national and international conferences and is a member of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS), the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), and is on the Board of Advisors for the Sporting Justice Collective.

Born and raised in Mililani, Hawaii, Dr. Oshiro enjoys traveling, surfing, longboarding, playing the ukulele and being a dog mom.
