Jessica Dunnavant
Biography
Dr. Jessica Dunnavant is a Nashville-based flutist and committed educator. In addition to her work at Belmont, she is Adjunct Instructor of flute at Lipscomb University and at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. For nearly two decades, she has built and sustained a large private studio of pre-college students in Middle Tennessee, many of whom have gone on to study music in collegiate settings across the US. Additional university teaching experience includes Middle Tennessee State University, Florida State University, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Dunnavant is second flute in the Jackson Symphony in West TN, and she is performs as a sub with many other regional groups. An avid early music practitioner, she has played Baroque flute and recorder as a core member of Music City Baroque for twenty years, and she serves them as Concert Operations manager. Dr. Dunnavant is the founding President of the Flute Society of Greater Nashville and also served as a board member for the Mid-South Flute Society from 2005 to 2017. Her degrees are from the University of Maryland College Park (DMA 2004), Florida State University (MM 2000) and Middle Tennessee State University (BM 1998), and her primary teachers were William Montgomery, Charles DeLaney and Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough.
