Biography

Dr. Fernando Diggs joined the Belmont faculty in the summer of 2019. Originally from Atlanta, GA, he initially received his AA and AS in Chemistry and Biology from Nashville State Community College before earning his BA from the Trevecca Nazarene University in Management and Human Relations. After the completion of his pre-pharmacy course work, he attended Belmont University College of Pharmacy for his Doctorate of Pharmacy training graduating in 2016. Dr. Diggs completed an ASHP-Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, as well as an ASHP-Accredited PGY2 Critical Care Residency at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL. Prior to joining the faculty at Belmont, Dr. Diggs worked as a clinical pharmacy specialist in a conjoined Surgical and Coronary Critical Care unit at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, AL. During his time as a resident and a specialist, he was a preceptor for students on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences students from the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University. Dr. Diggs became a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) in 2017.

As an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Diggs’ specialty area is in critical care. He teaches student pharmacists in the third year of the pharmacy curriculum where he serves as a co-instructor in Pathophysiology & Therapeutics IV and the Therapeutic Case Studies series. He also teaches critical care-related topics as well as an elective in Critical Care in the fall semester. His research interests include infectious disease, nutrition in the critically ill patient, and medical emergency response. Outside of work, Dr. Diggs enjoys playing tennis, cheering for Vanderbilt Commodores sports teams, and fellowshipping with his brothers of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc.
