Deen Entsminger

Biography

Deen Entsminger is a Professor of Music at Belmont University School of Music. He has taught in the School of Music since 1988 and currently directs the Belmont Chamber Singers, teaches courses in music theory, private composition, mentors students in the undergraduate and graduate music education program. Dr. Entsminger earned a Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University, a Master of Music in Composition from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Entsminger has over fifty published compositions with Colla Voce and the Musical Source Publishing. He has been a guest conductor for many festivals in Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. In 1998 & 2012, he conducted the West Virginia All-State Chorus. In 2017 he conducted the Virginia Honor Choir. Beginning in1995 and continuing for the next fourteen years, he served as choral director for the Shenandoah Performing Arts camp at his Alma Mater in Winchester, Virginia.

In October of 2002, Dr. Entsminger was chosen by the faculty at Shenandoah Conservatory to receive the Alumnus of Excellence Award. In 1994, he was chosen by his colleagues and students at Belmont University to receive the Chaney Distinguished Professor Award, the University's highest commendation, which recognizes outstanding teaching and service to the University and community. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education and a life member of the American Choral Director's Association.
