Biography

Bethany Merritt holds a Bachelor of Commercial Music with an emphasis in Performance from Belmont University and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, where she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Before joining the Commercial Voice faculty full-time at Belmont in 2022, Bethany was on faculty at Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, The Ensworth School, and Nashville State Community College. Bethany is certified in the Somatic Voicework™ The Lovetri Method. Bethany has directed Belmont’s pop ensemble ‘Company’ since 2019.

Bethany is a seasoned and in-demand jazz vocalist. She frequently records and performs as the featured vocalist with the Ryan Middagh Jazz Orchestra. In 2019 and 2020, she was nominated for the Nashville Industry Music Award for Best Jazz Vocalist. As a back-up vocalist, Bethany has shared the stage with Sara Bareilles, The New York Voices, Ben Folds, Hans Zimmer, Josh Groban, and the National Symphony Orchestra. Bethany fronted the Grand Hotel Jazz Orchestra on Mackinac Island, Michigan from 2013-2016.
