Biography
Dr. Annie Insana joined Belmont University's College of Education in 2022 and is an Assistant Professor of Education and the Director of Clinical Practice. In this role, Dr. Insana advises undergraduate and MAT students and teaches several undergraduate and graduate level courses to prospective educators, including Foundation of Education, Education Policy, Classroom Management, and Elementary Science and Social Studies Methods.
Dr. Insana began her professional career as an elementary teacher in California and Tennessee. Her teaching experiences inspired her to pursue higher education and work with new teachers. Dr. Insana graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015 with a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction and a focus on Teacher Education. Before joining Belmont, Annie worked at the Tennessee Department of Education as the Senior Director of Educator Preparation, where she oversaw the review and approval processes of the 45 Educator Preparation Providers in Tennessee. In this role, she learned how educational decisions are made and gained familiarity with the dynamic landscape of Tennessee’s political climate. She now serves the Tennessee Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (TACTE) executive board as president-elect, which is an organization that advocates for pre-K-12 education and promotes high-quality educator preparation for the benefit of Tennessee’s pre-K-12 students.
