Biography

Dr. Amy Schmisseur (“Dr. S”) is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies. She received her B.S. in Communication from Ohio University, an M.A. in Communication Studies/Organizational Communication from The University of Cincinnati, and her Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to her joining the Belmont community, she served as an instructor with Mouthpeace Consulting and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas. Her research interests include planned change communication, emotion and communication, organizing discourse, and business communication. In addition to numerous conference presentations, her work has been featured in the Handbook of Business Discourse, Discourse and Communication and The Journal of Business Communication. She has led webinars and conference sessions in the areas of leadership and conflict communication and enjoys working with professionals on developing their communication skills.

She has taught a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including sales communication, organizational change, organizational communication, groups/team communication, emotive communication, public speaking, and health communication.

In her free time, Dr. S enjoys working out, watching movies, baking, and watching her kids “do their thing.”
