Holistic, integrated programming and coaching to support your academic success
GPS stands for Guiding Pathways to Success. We use the acronym because we want you to use us just like the app on your phone or the device in your car – as a resource for your educational journey. We believe it's important to think comprehensively about your strengths, passions and needs as well as the needs of your community, nation and world.
The GPS office offers a variety of tools and activities to guide you along your way.
Individual Coaching Sessions
GPS coaches can assist with a variety of problems and questions you may have regarding your academic experience at Belmont. As a complement to advising, GPS’s one-on-one coaching can help you explore majors and degrees, plan your courses, develop strategies for creating a degree completion plan, gain skills to aid in academic recovery after poor performance and more.

Here's what we do best.
You may know your major already, or you may want to explore before you choose. There are students each year that change majors because they fall in love with a new field of study, or because they find their first choice isn’t really connecting as they thought it would. Maybe you love your major but want to explore other areas of study through a minor or free electives. Our office has coaches and tools to help you explore options to reach your academic goals or to find a different way to fulfill your passions.
The GPS Office is the place to go if you need assistance creating a degree completion/academic plan or if you need to talk to someone about making changes along the way. We help students make the most of their Belmont experience through focused exploration of resources and opportunities. We also offer help with more intentionally integrating opportunities for internships, study abroad/away and many other programs into your plan of study. Additionally, some students find it very helpful to use our programs and services.
Sometimes students need added support in the form of tutors or individual meetings with coaches to develop a recovery plan for overcoming a failed course or poor performance. Our coaches and programming are able to help you get the level of structure you need and assist you in the development of a plan that works for you. We can help you navigate your way back toward the path of academic success by focusing on the skills and knowledge needed to overcome the detours you may experience.
Compass Series Events
The Compass Series is an student success series hosted by GPS that is dedicated to helping you become a better, more competent college student. Whether that’s by helping you prepare for advising, discovering your path or educating you on how to cope with the stress of exams and course loads, the GPS office is here to help.
See our calendar of events on the GPS BruinLink page.
Curb, Massey and Inman Colleges
Students whose major falls within the colleges of Curb, Massey or Inman and need help with degree completion, course scheduling or changing majors should contact their assigned academic advisor or the advising center in their college. Students who are looking to change to a major outside of these colleges should visit GPS for support.
All students seeking support with academic success planning (study skills, learning strategies, time management or organization) or academic recovery planning (academic probation, or satisfactory academic progress) are welcome to schedule an appointment with GPS.
