Holistic, integrated coaching to aid you through your academic journey
GPS stands for “Growth & Purpose for Students." We use the acronym because we want you to use us just like the app on your phone or the device in your car – as a resource for your journey through your educational experience. Because it's important that you think comprehensively about your strengths, passions and needs as well as the needs of your community, nation and world, the GPS office offers a variety of tools and activities to guide you along your way.
Individual Coaching Sessions
GPS coaches can assist with a wide variety of problems and questions you may have regarding your academic experience at Belmont. GPS offers one-on-one coaching sessions with our qualified staff members. Separate from advising, coaching can help you find answers to questions regarding course planning, explore majors and degrees, develop a degree completion plan, gain skills to aid in academic recovery after poor performance and more.
Compass Series Events
The Compass Series is an student success series hosted by GPS that is dedicated to helping you become a better, more competent college student. Whether that’s by helping you prepare for advising, discovering your path or educating you on how to cope with the stress of exams and course loads, the GPS office is here to help.
See our calendar of events on the GPS BruinLink page.

What We Do
We share your desire to have a focused and intentional journey through Belmont. Sometimes the best way to ensure a smooth trip is through pre-planning. We want you to know what we can do for you!
You may know your major already, or you may want to explore before you choose. There are students each year that change majors because they fall in love with a new field of study, or because they find their first choice isn’t really connecting as they thought it would. Maybe you love your major but want to explore other areas of study through a minor or free electives. Our office has coaches and tools to help you explore options to reach your academic goals or to find a different way to fulfill your passions.
The GPS Office is the place to go if you need assistance creating a four-year academic plan or if you need to talk to someone about making changes along the way. We help students make the most of their Belmont experience through focused exploration of resources and opportunities. We also offer help with more intentionally integrating opportunities for internships, study abroad/away and many other programs into your plan of study. Additionally, some students find it very helpful to utilize our programs and services.
Sometimes students need added support in the form of tutors or individual meetings with coaches to develop a recovery plan for overcoming a failed course or poor performance. Our coaches and programming are able to help you get the level of structure you need and assist you in the development of a plan that works for you. We can help you navigate your way back toward the path of academic success by focusing on the skills and knowledge needed to overcome the detours you may experience.
Advising Resources
Many students find it helpful to visit our office before or after an advising meeting to talk about their academic decisions beyond just the next semester. Additionally, we offer resources to help sort through the different components of academic life. We work with multiple campus partners to help students achieve their goals during the Belmont journey.
