Throughout the world, over 700 programs in approx. 582 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates.

“Aligning ourselves with SHRM is an important step in making sure that we are providing relevant, timely, practical education to the students taking our HR courses,” said Dr. Kristen Faile, assistant professor of management.

SHRM is the world’s largest and most influential HR professional organization, recognized globally as the authority on workplace and people management. With nearly 340,000 members across 180 countries, SHRM is widely respected for advancing the HR profession.

Connecting Classroom to Career

The alignment coincided with the 2025 HR Tennessee Conference & Exposition at Music City Center, Sept. 7.

Each year, the conference brings HR professionals together from across the state to discuss workplace trends, build professional networks and collaborate on ideas that span industries.

Belmont’s HR faculty and SHRM student leaders attended this year’s event, and management and marketing student Anna Olson received one of two James House Williamson Scholarship Awards, presented in partnership with the host chapter.

The $2,000 scholarship provides financial support for undergraduates studying human resources management and related fields. Belmont students also joined peers from other Tennessee universities for a day of learning, networking and career preparation.

“This alignment allows our students to rest assured that they are taking relevant curriculum that will prepare them for professional careers in the HR field wherever they choose to go after graduation,” said Faile.

More About SHRM Guidebook and Templates

The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines — created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2022 — are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

Belmont will now be listed in the SHRM-approved HR program directory.
