Learn, Engage, Apply, Drive: New leadership series offered through Office of Formation & Leadership Development

Jeremy Fyke and AdriAnne SternbergThe Office of Formation & Leadership Development will launch LEAD Well, a virtual workshop series that gives Belmont staff and faculty new opportunities for leadership development this fall. The initiative is part of the new Formation Collaborative, which facilitates a variety of leadership development opportunities across campus for staff and faculty.

Four actions guide LEAD Well sessions: Learn, Engage, Apply and Drive. This interactive approach will allow staff and faculty to not only learn about character and skill development but also put it into practice.

“LEAD Well is a dynamic series of elective leadership development courses designed to equip faculty and staff at all levels with the mindset and skills to lead with character and impact,” said Dr. Jeremy Fyke, director of Character-Centered Leadership.

The program title is also a nod to the “Lead WELL” tagline initially introduced by BOLD - the Belmont Office of Leadership Development. Since 2018, Belmont students have engaged in leadership and character formation experiences offered through BOLD and WELL Core programs such as Bruin Lead, Tower Talks, Leadership Lately, GOLD - Graduate Opportunities in Leadership Development and more. These offerings ensure every student has access to leadership and character development experiences, equipping them to lead well both on and off campus. Dr. AdriAnne Sternberg is the associate dean for Leadership & Engagement and the creator of BOLD.

“While BOLD provides intentional opportunities for our students, it’s exciting to see faculty and staff now engaging in parallel experiences through LEAD Well,” Sternberg said. “Together, we’re building a culture where every member of our community is equipped to lead with SOUL — and, ultimately, lead well.”

Each month, virtual workshops will focus on character, leadership, operational skills and best practices, helping employees continue to model and practice character-centered leadership. The first LEAD Well session is Sept. 15.
