Results demonstrate program's continued success in preparing practice-ready nurses
All 90 Belmont University Spring 2025 nursing student graduates have successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), with 98% achieving success on their first attempt. This overall 100% licensure achievement reinforces the Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing's (ICON) reputation for developing highly skilled, practice-ready nurses.
The NCLEX serves as the nationwide examination for nursing licensure in the United States, evaluating graduates' readiness to provide safe and effective care as entry-level nurses. Belmont's continued success demonstrates the program's excellence in both academic preparation and clinical competency.
Belmont's first-attempt success significantly exceeds both the Tennessee average of 93.65% and the national average of 89.69% for 2024-25, continuing a pattern of outperforming state and national benchmarks.
“The success that our students have on the NCLEX exam is a testament to our innovative approach to nursing education," said Dr. Julie Honey, ICON dean. "Our students don't just learn to pass an exam; they develop the critical thinking, clinical judgment and compassionate care skills that make them exceptional Belmont nurses from their very first day in practice."
The program’s ongoing success reflects the unwavering dedication of its faculty, who provide individualized support and resources to every student, and through intentional integration of NCLEX preparation content throughout all semesters and the formalized NURishing Student Success Program, which provides structured, compassionate academic support for students at risk after early course performance challenges. This system is designed to promote reflection, encourage meaningful engagement with resources and build sustainable learning habits.
"Our students' success on the NCLEX reflects the dedication of our entire nursing community — faculty, clinical partners and the students themselves," said Dr. Christina Beall, senior associate dean of nursing. “At Belmont, we’ve created an environment where academic excellence and hands-on clinical learning come together supported by personalized mentoring that empowers every student to confidently transition into professional nursing practice.”
This achievement highlights ICON’s commitment to excellence in nursing education and its role in addressing the critical need for highly qualified health care professionals in Tennessee and beyond.
