Institution named among top 10 medium-sized colleges nationally; lauded for excellence in six categories of workplace culture and employee satisfaction
Belmont University has been named a "2025 Great College to Work For" by the Great Colleges to Work For® program, earning recognition in six distinct workplace excellence categories and securing a coveted spot on the program’s Honor Roll –– an elite designation reserved for only 42 institutions nationwide. This also places the University among the top 10 institutions in the country in the Medium size category (3,000-9,999 students).
This marks the first time Belmont has been named to the Great Colleges to Work For list or achieved Honor Roll status, placing the University among the highest-performing institutions in the country for workplace culture and employee satisfaction. The recognition comes as Belmont continues to experience unprecedented growth and innovation under the leadership of President Greg Jones, with 1,900 full-time and part-time faculty and staff contributing to the University's success.
Belmont's recognition spans six critical areas of workplace excellence:
- Compensation and Benefits
- Mission and Pride
- Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Faculty and Staff Well-being
- Faculty Experience
This comprehensive recognition reflects the University's holistic approach to creating an environment where faculty and staff thrive.
"One of Belmont's greatest assets is our people," said University President Dr. Greg Jones. "This recognition affirms what we experience daily: our culture –– defined by our shared commitment to character, creativity and innovation –– creates a community where talents are developed and celebrated. Our Christ-centered foundation fosters an environment of trust that encourages bold thinking and innovative problem-solving, making Belmont a place where all employees work together toward our shared goals."
The recognition comes during a period of remarkable growth for Belmont. Under Dr. Jones' leadership, the University has opened the $92 million Jack C. Massey Center, launched the Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine with a state-of-the-art, 60,000 square foot simulation center, secured the largest gift in University history –– a $58 million donation from Mike Curb and the Mike Curb Foundation –– and received a $32 million grant for Christianity and the arts from the Lilly Endowment Inc. Moreover, earlier this year alumnus, Board Chair and retired HCA Healthcare Chairman and CEO Milton Johnson and his wife Denice made a historic $30 million gift to create the Johnson Academic Challenge, an innovative matching fund program to create up to 20 endowed faculty positions. These achievements, among many others, are what Jones calls "traditioned innovation" –– drawing from the best of the past to shape the future through bold, transformational action.
Beyond investments in growth and student-serving initiatives and facilities, Belmont has also prioritized University employees, advancing programs that strengthen culture and ensure faculty and staff can thrive. Implementing flexible work arrangements, conducting a comprehensive compensation study, expanding employee-focused formation opportunities and introducing PTO policies that are more supportive of foster families and new parents are just a few of the changes made in recent years.
Belmont's employee-focused culture has made it a destination for exceptional faculty and staff across all disciplines. The University's programs consistently earn national recognition, including its entrepreneurship program ranked among the world's top 32 by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine, with additional honors as a top music business school by Billboard, top music school by The Hollywood Reporter and top film school by Variety. With strengths spanning entertainment and music business, health care, business, law and liberal arts, Belmont offers diverse career opportunities in one of America’s most dynamic cities.
A campus-wide employee event, Sept. 22, celebrated the Great Colleges’ achievement as well as the University’s largest-ever student enrollment at census, marking the strong momentum Belmont has for the future.
The Great Colleges to Work For program, administered by ModernThink, is one of the country's largest and most respected workplace recognition programs. Recognition is based primarily on employee feedback collected through comprehensive surveys of faculty, administrators and staff. Of 199 participating institutions nationwide, only 76 achieved "Great College to Work For" status, with Belmont among the select few earning Honor Roll distinction.
