Meet Belmont Alumna Maegan Griffin, the Founder and CEO Shaping the Future of Cosmetic Dermatology

April 24, 2024 | by Clara LoCricchio

Meet Belmont Alumna Maegan Griffin, the founder and CEO of Skin Pharm. With her background as a nurse practitioner, Griffin has brought over a decade of experience in aesthetic medicine to the forefront of cosmetic dermatology.

After completing her BSN at Belmont in 2011 and gaining valuable experience in intensive care and plastic surgery settings, she discovered her true calling in skin care and rejuvenation.

Griffin's diverse nursing experience gave her a unique perspective. "I got to see everything — from skin cancer removal to pre-op and post-op care, to injectables," she explained.  Maegan Griffin

This breadth of experience not only enriched her expertise but also exposed her to the various facets of patient care, highlighting a crucial industry gap she felt compelled to address.

“As a patient, I often found myself feeling underwhelmed by the impersonal atmosphere seen in many clinics. And as a provider, I witnessed firsthand the limitations of this approach in truly meeting the holistic needs of clients.”

Driven by a desire to establish an environment where clients could feel empowered and genuinely cared for, Griffin launched Skin Pharm in 2017 — one of the first female-founded cosmetic dermatology practices available to consumers. Her vision was to create a clinic that was as inviting and innovative as the treatments she offered. Skin Pharm started with a flagship location in Nashville and has since expanded to several cities, all while launching an in-house skincare line in 2018.

Recognized for her artistry in modern facial rejuvenation and use of cutting-edge technologies, Griffin's work is about empowering her clients, promoting skin health and building a community around feeling good in your own skin. Her approach to beauty and anti-aging focuses on confidence and patient care.

"I lead with intuition and care, because I don’t think that should be replaced," Griffin said. "But I've had to evolve as a founder and CEO, becoming more technical and data-driven while still applying that intuition. I think that's what makes us different in this industry — this is a healthcare business, not just a corporate opportunity."

Skin Pharm's growth has been impressive, with a recent $15 million investment from Prelude Growth Partners, a female-founded growth equity firm, allowing for nationwide expansion. The practice now proudly serves clients across Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, Franklin, Houston, Alpharetta and its newest location in Austin, which opened its doors earlier this month.

Looking back, Griffin admits she never could have predicted the direction her career would take.

"If you had told me 10 years ago that this is what I'd be doing, I wouldn't have believed you," she laughed. "But that's the beauty of nursing — there are so many opportunities, and you never know what doors might open."

Her education at Belmont University was instrumental in shaping her career path.

“Belmont laid the foundation for my career as a nurse practitioner, as well as the essential skills and mindset crucial for entrepreneurship,” Griffin shared. “Plus, Belmont instilled the importance of teamwork and collaboration, which has been essential in building a strong team and sparking innovation in my ventures.”

Today, Griffin is not just shaping an industry — she’s empowering individuals across the country to find beauty in their skin's health.

“There's something truly special about knowing that we play a role in enhancing someone's day-to-day confidence,” said Griffin. “Every time we receive feedback from someone who feels better in their own skin because of our products or services, it reaffirms that we're making a positive impact. These moments remind us why we do what we do."
