Biography
Dr. Michael Ormsmith holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute.
Dr. Ormsmith has more than two decades of experience in educational leadership creating supportive environments for faculty at all stages of their career. Most recently, Dr. Ormsmith served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Wessington Springs School District in South Dakota. A native of Virginia, his earlier roles there included Director of Career and Technical Education, Principal, Instructional Supervisor, and classroom educator.
Dr. Ormsmith has a practical understanding of teaching, learning, and faculty support from multiple vantage points. His professional work emphasizes building coherent professional development systems that strengthen evaluation and feedback practices while supporting leaders and faculty through institutional change. Dr. Ormsmith promotes faculty development frameworks that foster collaborative cultures and value reflective practices that encourage continuous learning and improve student outcomes.
Dr. Ormsmith is married to a Family Physician, and they have recently moved to Tennessee with their two daughters. When not in the office, Dr. Ormsmith enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, vacationing in tropical locations, and volunteering at church.
