Biography

Dr. Tully is an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies. She received her B.A. in Communication Studies from Belmont University before earning her M.A. from Ball State University and her Ph.D. from University of Iowa.

She studies women in comedy and their relationships to feminist rhetoric. Her research lies at the intersections of feminist media criticism and critical rhetoric. Her dissertation examines comedians who adopt the trope of the trainwreck to demonstrate the consequences of growing up in postfeminist culture that both insists women are finally liberated and continues to police their choices. Her work has appeared in Women's Studies in Communication and Critical Studies in Media Communication and examines texts like Inside Amy Schumer and Bob's Burgers. Her most recent line of research traces white feminist rhetoric in pop culture through texts including Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Snatched, and Big Little Lies.

In her spare time, Dr. Tully enjoys reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and obsessing over pop culture. Her husband, Woody, and their cats often participate.
