Embrace a Bigger Story

Big stories are made up of a million smaller stories... Including yours!

Each one of our stories matters.

And combined, our stories reflect a much bigger picture of purpose in the world.

This year at Belmont, we want to encourage you to embrace a bigger story. What does this look like?

Embracing a bigger story means moving beyond our individual perspectives and engaging with more comprehensive narratives and a broadened sense of purpose.

It involves seeing past our experiences and considering a larger context or grander vision.

The Bigger Story of our Lives

Embracing a bigger story reminds us that we are part of a web of relationships with other people, our environment and the world at large.

Though we may feel lonely or isolated at times, this mantra helps us discover we are all connected.

Finding your purpose, your “why,” is not a linear, finite destination, but rather, an invitation to continue exploring and evolving throughout your life and engaging in work that is meaningful to you.

No single moment in time is solely reflective of the bigger story and meaning of your life. Rather than fixating on the moment directly in front of us, we are free to remain hopeful for the future.

The world needs your story!

The Bigger Story for Belmont

Belmont is a chapter in each of our stories. The work we do and the relationships we build here have unique purpose.

The diversity of our experiences, cultures and beliefs are valuable in continuing to write the collective narrative of the Belmont community.

Our bigger Belmont story considers all viewpoints as we work together to address complex global challenges by embracing empathy, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn from one another.

You are here at an exciting time as we work towards God-sized dreams for our institution – we want to change the course of our Belmont history, and we need your help to get there.

The Bigger Story of the World

Our tagline “Let Hope Abound” reminds us to look forward to a bright future where God fulfills His promises.

As a Christ-centered institution, we find hope through God’s story as He orchestrates His plan for human history. We trust in this plan and continue to look higher in aligning ourselves with this greater mission.

God is in the midst of everyday moments —all at work for His greater good. That is a “Bigger Story” to get excited about.

These stories need to be told.

Throughout the Fall Semester, we'll roll out a new series of prompts that will help you consider how your story fits into bigger stories at play.

You can reflect on these in the journal you received at Opening Convocation or you can share it at the link below.
