Adult Degree WELL Core Overview

Adult Degree Program is a separate, non-traditional program for adults pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies, a Professional Bachelor of Business Administration degree, or the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Due to the nature of this non-traditional program, the method for meeting WELL Core requirements has been slightly altered. If you are not in one of the special programs mentioned above, the following information does not apply to you.

(Wellness Experiences for Life-long Learning)

The purpose of WELL Core is to nurture in each student the capacity to live a life that is satisfying, with a sense of meaning and purpose, encompassing all dimensions of human life.

* Intellectual Well-Being: features wrestling with important and difficult issues and ideas. Emphasis on the ecology of complex systems, critical thinking, artistic and literary criticism, expanded context for decision making, rational decision-making and its limitations. Also includes programming on complex systems such as ecosystems, mechanical systems, human organizations, and human health.

Occupational/Financial Well-Being: features development of skills in preparation for employment and money management after graduation. It includes programming on how to get a job, career management, personal finances, and work/life balance, as well as intellectual, emotional, and physical stress management strategies.

Cultural Well-Being: features expanded understanding of the arts, as well as cultural and civic systems and your connections to them. Includes programming on cultures and ideas other than your own, with an emphasis on valuing differences.

 * Spiritual Well-Being: features deepening and enhancing personal and communal spiritual life connecting to the Christian tradition, with emphasis on interplay between faith and justice, peace, mercy, grace, and love. Includes programming on understanding various Christian faith perspectives, theological issues, and religiously based ethics. Also includes more traditional worship services.

Interpersonal/Emotional/Physical Well-Being: features developing of skills of interpersonal connection as well as recognition and coping with emotions. Includes programming related to interpersonal, emotional, and physical well-being.

Community Well-Being Through Service: features group or individual direct community service, personal civic engagement, and service learning. Includes a wide range of engagement opportunities, both on campus and across the Nashville community.

Students in the Adult Degree program may gain credits by one of two methods. They may attend approved on-campus programs or online events in the various categories listed in BruinLink under the WELL Core categories. For on-campus events, the student's QR code is scanned at the program, the student completes and assessment of the event, and after which the credit is electronically transferred into the students BruinLink and WELL Core accounts. For online events, the student participates in the events or video, takes a quiz and assessment, after which the credit is applied to their account.

The other option for gaining WELL Core credits is to attend an event off-campus that meets the vision and mission of the WELL Core program and category descriptions listed above. Students will then submit a brief reflective narrative on that event. Details on what constitutes a reflective narrative are found on the approved Portfolio Form.

All Community WELL-Being Through Service credit is obtained by completing the Community Service Form in GetConnected that indicates that nature of the service performed and lists a contact such as a supervisor who may be called for verification.

WELL Core is a graduation requirement and students will not graduate if they fail to complete their WELL Core requirements. It is very important that students keep track of their credits. These credits may be checked in BruinLink and the student's WELL Core account.
