Center for Global Citizenship (CGC) prepares students and the Nashville-area business community to make the world a better place through purpose, character and a transformational mindset. The main role of the CGC is to cultivate global mindset across the Belmont community and promote a sense of civic responsibility to the world as a whole, rather than just a local community. Global mindset is a lifelong human pursuit of openness, humility and respect for other cultures and perspectives. By expanding one’s personal horizons we become better equipped to solve world’s complex problems in a more meaningful way. Global citizens have the responsibility to adopt lifestyles and values that reflect our commitment to building a sustainable planet and demonstrate respect for the world’s cultural diversity.

The Center for Global Citizenship’s stakeholders are Belmont University’s faculty, students, CGC Advisory Board members as well as the larger Nashville community.

The series feature global business leaders and Jack C. Massey College of Business alumni who share their vocational journeys, experience and wisdom while offering mentorship and networking opportunities for students.

This series allow students meet the authors and get signed books.

Global Town Hall

This series invites the Nashville public along with Tennessee’s business and education leaders to engage with esteemed diplomats and ambassadors on the leading geopolitical issues of our time.

Programs & Services

As businesses, non-profits, and non-governmental organizations continue to accelerate their activities around the world, the need for internationally competent leaders with a global mindset will continue to accelerate as well. Such leaders must possess the ability to effectively manage across complex domestic and international markets.

The development of an international perspective is a key component in the mission of the Jack C. Massey College of Business. All undergraduate B.B.A. and graduate M.B.A. degree-seeking students are required to complete an International Business course, and global concepts are discussed in many other business classes. Moreover, all M.B.A. students are required to complete an experiential study tour abroad.

The CIB provides customized trade and investment research to partner institutions, businesses, and other organizations. this initiative ensures interaction between the local trade and investment community and the academic community, helping to increase trade and investment activities within the Greater Nashville area.

Consulting services can involve ad-hoc projects or the more formal Massey International Consultancy (MIC). In most instances, either format offers professional quality consulting services to a host of worldwide clients and an experiential learning opportunity for students. Consulting projects are carried out by self-managed teams of students working under the supervision of a Belmont University faculty advisor and a corporate sponsor.

  • Consulting projects offer a number of benefits to clients, including:
  • Fresh ideas and outside perspectives regarding the strategic issues relevant to the client.
  • Professional, high-quality, actionable MBA-level research, analysis and recommendations.
  • The opportunity to build your employer brand with graduate business students.
  • A pool of diverse talent and a potential pipeline of future employees.

The following are ideal characteristics for consulting projects:

  • Business challenge is important to top management of the organization.
  • Project is International in scope.
  • Involves multiple business functions, e.g., marketing, operations, finance, etc.

The workplace is becoming increasingly international in scope. A successful manager in an international environment needs knowledge and skills that extend beyond the business disciplines. For this reason, we have internationalized our curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to an overall comprehension of business administration, successful international business professionals often exhibit the following traits:

Student Organization


International Business & World Affairs Alliance (IBWAA)

The IBWAA is a professional student-run organization composed of Belmont University students interested in international business and world affairs. Members come from various backgrounds and majors but are united by their interests in the dynamic social, economic, political, and cultural landscapes around the world. Working closely with the Tennessee World Affairs Council, the IBWAA fosters greater understanding of international business, international relations, local and world affairs through a variety of meetings and events, including guest speakers, business socials, career workshops, study abroad fairs and field trips to corporate offices and community organizations. Membership is open to all Belmont University students.

Community Resources

The CIB partners with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, through its International Business Council, to co-sponsor networking and special trade- and investment-related events and speakers. The purpose of the Chamber's international business efforts is to create economic prosperity by promoting the growth and development of Middle Tennessee as a place where international business thrives.

The CIB partners with the Tennessee World Affair Council (TN WAC) to host a variety of events. TN WAC provides international education awareness opportunities to the Nashville and Middle Tennessee communities and schools with programs such as teacher workshops, teacher study tours abroad, distinguished visiting speaker programs and Academic WorldQuest. TN WAC is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with an independent board chartered in Tennessee and affiliated with the nation-wide network of 90+ councils and a Washington, D.C.-based “umbrella” organization, the World Affairs Councils of America.

Founded in 1990, Sister Cities of Nashville (SCN) is a chapter of Sister Cities International, which is based in Washington D.C. SCN is a volunteer organization that connects Nashvillians with friends around the world through exchanges, cultural programs, and partnerships. The CIB works with SCN to hosts delegates from around the world and organizes university study abroad/exchange programs in several of Nashville’s sister cities, including Belfast, Caen, and Mendoza.
