Study Abroad

Study Abroad Opportunities

In the College of Theology & Christian Ministry, studying abroad is not a question of if, but when. We believe studying abroad and experiencing the world outside of Belmont is critical to becoming a global citizen and deepening your understanding of what it means to be a Christian.

Our faculty sponsor a number of opportunities for you to study abroad, including:

25% of eligible CTCM Students Study Abroad Every Year

Belmont in the Biblical World

Each May we offer you the opportunity to join college faculty on a trip to the biblical lands of Israel, Jordan and Greece. In addition to participating in pilgrimages to sacred sites, we also take this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about the political, social, economic and cultural climate of the region.

Belmont in Africa

Since 2007, Belmont University has sponsored an annual trip to South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania. On this service-learning trip, you’ll work with local nonprofits addressing the AIDS epidemic. You’ll meet the needs of these communities through service work while being immersed in the local political, economic and cultural climates.

Belmont in Pine Ridge

You don’t need to leave the United States to experience a different culture. Through our annual Pine Ridge study away trip, you’ll become immersed in the cultures of the Lakota Sioux and Arapaho at reservations in Pine Ridge, South Dakota and Wind River, Wyoming. On this trip, you’ll explore practices of reconciliation and justice through the lens of a Native American Christian context.

Belmont in Europe

With this study abroad opportunity, you’ll experience the majesty and meaning of some of Europe’s most significant and iconic sites related to western Christianity. Recent trips to Italy and Germany have focused on the Reformation and its enduring impact on Christian faith today.

Belmont in Spain

This Maymester study abroad trip will take you to Madrid, Toledo, Córdoba, Granada and Seville, where you’ll explore the ethics of convivencia (living together) and examples of hospitality among Jews, Christians and Muslims in medieval Spain.

Belmont at St. Andrews

If you’re interested in a longer study abroad experience, you may choose to spend an entire semester abroad, taking classes at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Founded in 1413, St. Andrews is the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Today, because of its reputation as one of the world’s leading institutions, the university draws students from more than 100 countries.

Belmont Global

Beyond the opportunities sponsored by the College of Theology & Christian Ministry, the Belmont Global program offers a variety of study abroad opportunities and domestic and international mission trips.
