Belmont University’s Office of Study Abroad (OSA) is housed on the first floor of the Janet Ayers Academic Center in Room 1009. OSA staff can:
- counsel you about study abroad program options
- assist you with the study abroad application process
- determine academic credit prior to departure
- advise you of important visa, health and travel safety information
Meet With Us
Walk-In Advising Hours
We meet with students in the Office of Study Abroad during walk-in advising hours, which are held weekly on:
- Tuesdays 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
- Fridays 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

- Emma Cate WhitefieldAssistant Director of Study AbroadLocation: JAAC 1009View Bio
Emma Cate is the Assistant Director for the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). She works with faculty, students, and study abroad partners on the academic side of program planning. Emma Cate has spent six years living and working abroad in Germany, Austria, England, and Scotland. She is a Tennessee native who has spent the last several years living in the United Kingdom working on her postgraduate degrees.
She holds an M.A. in Cross-Cultural Communication and Applied Linguistics from Newcastle University in England. She has spent the last four years at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland (ancient home of golf and Prince William’s alma mater) working on her Ph.D. in Qualitative Social Psychology, which will be completed this academic year.
Emma Cate has been to 14 countries and visits as many museums, cathedrals, and coffee shops as possible while abroad. She speaks more than a little German and believes everyone should visit the York Minster at least once in their life. Her favorite place is Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands, and her favorite German word is “gemütlichkeit.”

Jennie Steinfeld is the Study Abroad Advisor for the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). Originally from Ohio, Jennie graduated from Taylor University in Indiana with a B.A. in International Studies and minors in English Literature and Spanish. A childhood spent traveling, as well as a semester abroad in Greystones, Ireland and a month abroad in South Africa, all confirmed her desire to work overseas in international education.
After graduation Jennie spent four years in Klaipeda, Lithuania as a recruiter for Study Abroad Lithuania at LCC International University. There she enjoyed working with students throughout their entire time abroad and leading trips within the Baltics and Russia. After moving to Lithuania's capital, Vilnius, Jennie served as an Incoming Student Coordinator for the historic Vilnius Academy of Arts and as Coordinator for Women's Ministry at the International Church of Vilnius.
Jennie has also worked professionally as a baker in both Lithuanian and American bakeries and loves baking at home. New to the area, she and her husband are looking forward to exploring more of Nashville and the rest of Tennessee.

Caroline Elliott is the Co-Advisor and Front Desk Assistant for the Office of Study Abroad. She is excited to be back at Belmont after graduating in May, 2022. Caroline earned a B.A. in Communication Studies with minors in Political Science and Education.
Caroline has always loved to travel and studied abroad through Belmont in Spring 2020 in Rome, Italy. She has visited over 10 countries and some of her favorites include Greece, Switzerland, and Italy. When she travels, she loves taste-testing different types of pizza and flavors of gelato.

Hayley Reed is the Assistant Director for the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). She works closely with faculty to help them to build programs that will promote academic enrichment and cultural growth.
In 2003, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Eastern Illinois University. Upon graduating she was able to travel abroad to Paris, France, and continues to enjoy traveling throughout the continental U.S.
Hayley pursued a career in hospitality management that brought her to Nashville, TN. She worked for Marriott International for 9 years, and upon leaving was the Assistant General Manager at the SpringHill Suites Nashville Airport. She has been with Belmont University since October 2012.
Hayley plans to travel more internationally to enjoy her love of architecture and other cultures. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her children, traveling, reading, photography and staying active playing soccer for local leagues.
