Become a Resident Assistant!
Resident Assistants (RAs) serve as an integral part of campus life. RAs help shape the community in each residence hall. Residence Life seeks to hire students that want to be a part of a dynamic, multifaceted position. RAs provide opportunities to foster strong relationships with fellow students, be an outstanding leader on campus, and develop as individuals, students, and professionals.
Qualifications
Resident Assistants are crucial to the function of Residence Life and are held to a high professional standard. There are certain qualifications that Resident Assistants are expected to meet. These qualifications include (but are limited to):
- Arrive to campus before classes begin and remain after classes have ended for both the Fall & Spring semesters.
- Live on campus and serve for the entire school year, both the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Punctual attendance at all training and development opportunities.
- Act as a role model for other students both academically and personally both on and off campus.
- Maintain visibility in their complex and remain available while in the complex.
- A 2.7 GPA or above to start in the RA position, and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA following their first semester and throughout their employment.
- Abide by all University policies and regulations.
- Assist with administrative tasks and complete in a timely manner.
- Work no more than 20 hours per week at any commitment outside their RA responsibilities such as a second job or an internship.
Benefits
- A room grant, which covers the RA's full housing expenses for both the fall and spring semesters.
- Priority desk hours and $7.25/hour for duty during visitation hours and desk coverage beyond 4 hours/week.
- One-on-one personal leadership development and training with Residence Director (RD) and team members.
- Skill building to use in future professional roles such as completing administrative tasks, time management, conflict mediation, event planning, working on a team, and community building.
