Need personal advice but unsure about counseling?
Let’s Talk is a program that provides easy access to informal conversations with a BUCS counselor. In these conversations, the counselor can offer support, perspective and suggestions for resources. Let’s Talk is not considered nor is a substitute for therapy.
Please note: For the time being, all conversations will be virtual and occur over Zoom.
If you are in crisis and need immediate assistance, please contact Campus Security at (615) 460-6911 or dial 911 to reach your local emergency services. Additional resources can be found on our Emergency Information page.
Let's Talk is available during the days and times listed below.

- How is Let's Talk different from a regular counseling session at BUCS?
- It’s a brief conversation (approximately 15 minutes).
- No appointment is necessary.
- No paperwork is involved.
- Conversations are not documented or noted in any record.
- Who should consider a Let's Talk conversation?
- Students who are unsure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a counselor.
- Students who are not interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a counselor.
- Students who have a specific problem and would like some quick tips to help manage.
- Students who have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do.
- Are Let's Talk conversations confidential?
- I may be interested in regular counseling - where do I start?
Conversations with Let’s Talk counselors are confidential, with a few, very rare exceptions.
Counselors may need to share information in an emergency when there is an immediate threat of harm to self or others. Counselors are required by law to report when a minor, elderly person, or someone otherwise incapacitated and unable to act on their own behalf is being abused.
If you have further questions about confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss them with a Let’s Talk counselor.
