Advising for New Students

Incoming freshmen and transfers will register for classes during their orientation session prior to the start of classes. A team of staff and students will be available to walk you through the process, but it’s important to familiarize yourself now with the tools you’ll use for course registration.

To begin, new students may view their account in “Degree Works” after the enrollment deposit has been processed. DegreeWorks will allow you to see the components of your academic program: the major, minor, electives and BELL Core (Belmont’s general education curriculum) courses you’ll need to choose to meet your degree requirements. To access Degreeworks, login into your "MyBelmont" account, and click the “Registration” drop down menu; then click “Degreeworks (student).” Make sure you allow pop-ups in your computer settings in order to open Degreeworks.

At the top of the new window, you should see your selected major (If you wish to change your major prior to orientation, contact your Admissions Counselor). On the rest of the screen will be a checklist of the categories and courses you’ll need to complete your degree. Don’t be overwhelmed! This is just to familiarize you with the program. You can also view the next semester’s course option on our Classfinder page to start getting ideas about what you want to take. However, be assured you will have a course registration team with you to help you through your initial registration experience. And for the rest of your Belmont career, you’ll be able to meet one-on-one with an assigned academic advisor who will help guide you on your educational journey.
