Student Learning Assessment

At Belmont University our intention is to help students realize their God-given purpose in life, and while they are doing that, to equip them to fulfill that purpose.

Equipping students begins with our four University Learning Goals (ULGs).

These four goals are actually a learning model -- first, subject content with a foundation of interdisciplinary thinking. Then the ability to practice those content knowledge and skills through critical thinking and communication: solving problems, creating work product, mastering their craft, honing their abilities, presenting to others, becoming a part of the larger community around them. This then prepares them to navigate the complex nature of the world prepared for their work as graduates, lifelong learners, and alumni.

We unpack our University Learning goals with key areas or sub-themes. These guide our areas of collection and observation.

The role of Student Learning Assessment is to find ways to observe student progress
toward these goals wherever we observe students:
across disciplines,
across campus,
across student experiences.
