- HONOR OUR VETERANS: SAL GIUNTA, MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT11-11-2021 | 10:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. | Beaman B
Join us for this all-campus event on Veterans Day as we hear from Sal Giunta, the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq or Afghanistan, the first living service member to be awarded the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War and the eighth service member to receive the nation’s highest military decoration for valor in Iraq and Afghanistan.
While serving as a rifle team leader with Company B, 2d battalion (Airborne), 503d Infantry Regiment, Giunta and his team were navigating through the treacherous terrain of Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley on October 25, 2007, when they were ambushed by a well-armed and well-coordinated insurgent force. Learn how his courage and leadership while under extreme enemy fire were integral to his platoon’s ability to defeat an enemy ambush and recover a fellow paratrooper from enemy hands.
Show up to recognize Belmont student veterans, someone else who has served, or in support of our military that is deployed all over the world. WELL Core Intellectual Well-Being will be offered.

- GREEN LIGHT A VETERAN11-13-2021 | AT NIGHT | Bell Tower & McWhorter Fountain
Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. "Green Light" is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green. Tonight, watch the Bell Tower and the fountain in front of McWhorter as Belmont changes the lights to green in honor of this national campaign.
