Why Study a Foreign Language?
BU4UOn a Personal Level:

The study of a foreign language increases understanding of the interaction between language, culture and thought. Through language study, students broaden their perspective as well as their knowledge base, allowing them to read and understand material that would otherwise be available only in translation. Foreign Language students not only overcome language barriers, but understand and enjoy other cultures. As a result, they are personally enriched.

On an Educational Level:

Belmont University provides a very special combination of small-campus atmosphere and large-campus ideas. The potential for close rapport between teacher and student in Belmont's foreign language classes is remarkable. Language classes come alive as teachers utilize innovative, interactive and collaborative teaching methods to provide a thorough foundation for language study. Students find themselves engaged and enjoying the material while preparing themselves for future career opportunities.

On a Professional Level:

Competence in a foreign language will enhance career potential, no matter what career a student is planning for. Whether it be in business, sciences, communications, advertising, banking, teaching, travel/tourism, government service, or overseas employment, knowledge of a foreign language is the extra selling-point needed to land that perfect job. The opportunities that accompany a major or minor in a foreign language are boundless. Travel, adventure, and future opportunities await Belmont language students!
