Creative scholarship, service, leadership development, and global experiences are the hallmarks of our interdisciplinary Honors Core curriculum for exceptional students who work closely together and engage in research, team and creative projects. Program distinctives include a curriculum enriched with writing and research, a semester abroad with Belmont faculty, and intentional leadership development for all students.

Honors Core

Signature and Foundations courses are uniquely Honors courses in emphasis, consistent seminar delivery, and intensively focused content. Together with the Degree Cognates, they form the Honors Core.

The Honors Core replaces the BELL Core (Belmont's General Education requirements). Honors students must still satisfy the requirements specified by their major. Learn more about specific Honors Core courses offered in:

Over the course of your degree program, you will take seven Signature Courses (21 hours): Higher-level, challenging interdisciplinary courses that provide the unique stamp of a Belmont Honors liberal arts education within the Honors Core. 

Over the course of your degree program, you will take seven Foundations Courses (22 hours): A broad spectrum of courses that provide essential knowledge in a diverse array of academic fields. Courses will be designed around special topics within the subjects listed:

Degree Cognates (0-15 hours). These distinguish the various degrees from one another, indicating the extension of liberal learning that is appropriate to each distinct degree. You are only required to take the hours listed under the particular degree you are pursuing. 

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA): 15 hours
    • 3 additional hours in Social Science
    • 3 additional hours in Humanities
    • 6 hours in Foreign Language
    • 3 additional hours in Science
  • Bachelor of Science (BS): 15 hours
    • 6 additional hours in Social Science
    • 3 additional hours in Humanities
    • 3 additional hours in Math
    • 3 additional hours in Science
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA): 12 hours
    • ECO 2210: Principles of Macroeconomics (3 hours)
    • ECO 2220: Principles of Microeconomics (3 hours)
    • MTH 1150: Elementary Statistics (3 hours)
    • 3 additional hours in Humanities
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 10 hours
    • MTH 1151, Elementary Statistics for the Sciences
    • PSY 1100: General Psychology (3 hours) OR

Belmont Global Honors encourages you to explore. Studying Abroad allows you to do just that. 

In the spring semester of the second year, you will embark on a Belmont faculty-led, semester program abroad. A Belmont faculty member and his or her family will accompany you and a cohort of 20-25 fellow Belmont Global students to one of our partner institutions around the world.
